Community Helpers

At the beginning of April, our class learned about community helpers for a few weeks. We discussed what it means to be a community helper and discussed different community helper jobs. The small group activities for those weeks were based on different jobs. We did sorting activities and matched the tools certain community helpers use at work. We made blueprints and built with blocks. We pretended to be barbers and gave paper trolls haircuts. One of our favorite activities was being cooks. There was a recipe to follow and each day the group got to eat what they made. We decided we were really good cooks!
The pictures are of only one group, but all the groups got to do this.

                              

To end our community helper unit, Mr. Seth was able to bring an ambulance for us to tour. He showed us some different equipment and answered some questions we had. The class really enjoyed it!

               

              

Arts Unit

The students had a great time exploring the different areas of the arts! Here are more pictures including a visit from Wes Weeber doing an instrument activity and a visit from Mrs. White showing us some of the instruments she has at home. There is also a picture of the Kandinsky inspired paintings we did in class.

Art Room Visit

Today was our second visit to Ms. Majeski's art room. Last week we got to tour the room. Today we got to paint some different kinds of lines and mix colors to create new. We even learned to clean our brushes by "milking the cow."

Here is the link to the weekly song. We haven't had any real winter weather yet, but that is the theme in class for the week. This song is slower than songs we usually do. The song also has repetition which makes it easier for the students to learn.

Weekly Songs

There is a different song on the class newsletter each week. The song usually has to do with the topic we are learning about. We sing this song all week in class. I try to include the tune of the song on the newsletter so you can sing the song at home with your child. I know it can be hard to put the lyrics with the tune, so I was given the idea to post a video of the song each week. This way, if you want to sing the song with your child, you have an idea of the tune and the movements we do.
